Az Élő gyűjtemény projekt kilencedik kiállításán Turcsány Villő [1972] Goliath 5.1. ‘A.M.’ –  Goliath Fejek sorozat (2003, mintázott forma, beton öntvény, pigment, 25×13×18 cm) és Stróbl Alajos [1856–1926] Halotti maszk – László Fülöp főherceg (1895, gipsz, 20,5×32,5×17,5 cm) című plasztikái kerültek a Magyar Nemzeti Galéria Lépésváltás című állandó kiállításának terébe.

Turcsány Villő gyűjteményünkből a húszévesen elhunyt Habsburg László Fülöp főherceg Stróbl Alajos készítette halotti maszkját állította párba a Dávid és Góliát történetére utaló sorozatának utolsó darabjával. Az ovális kavicsszerű alapformából az arc részletei úgy bontakoznak ki, ahogy egy-egy természeti jelenségbe látjuk bele az antropomorf formákat. A fej nem egy konkrét személy vonásait viseli, bár az arc nagyon karakteres. A halotti maszk ezzel szemben hűen mutatja az éppen elhunyt személy vonásait, relikviaként őrzi ráncait, sebhelyeit, szőr- és hajszálait.

A törékeny gipszmaszk éteri pillanat közvetítője, és pontosan az ellenpontja Turcsány Villő tömör, nehéz, tömbszerű betonszobrának. Bár más-más aspektusból közelítik meg, mindkét műben érzékelhető a halál természetes és „kézzel fogható” jelenléte. A résnyire nyitott száj alapvető kapcsolat a maszk és Turcsány Villő kék színű fejplasztikája között. A száj a lélek kapuja, így a létezések között lebegő időfragmentumok öltenek testet mindkét kiállított tárgyban. Az állandóság és az időtlenség monumentumai, ugyanakkor emberi esendőségünk portrétükrei is.

A kilencedik kiállítás november 18-ig látható a Magyar Nemzeti Galéria harmadik emeleti Lépésváltás kiállításának kiállítóterében. A projekt következő, és egyben utolsó kiállítása november 22-én, csütörtökön délután nyílik meg.

Villő Turcsány | Goliath 5.1. ‘A.M.’ –  Goliath Heads series 2003

The 9th pair of sculptures in the project are the Goliath 5.1. ‘A.M.’ –  Goliath Heads series (2003, patterned form, cast concrete, pigment, 25×13×18 cm) by Villő Turcsány [1972] and the Death Mask of Archduke Ladislaus Philipp (1895, plaster, 20.5×32.5×17.5 cm) by Alajos Stróbl [1856–1926].

The death mask of Archduke Ladislaus Philipp, a member of the Habsburg family, who died at the age of twenty, has been chosen by Villő Turcsány to accompany the final piece in her series of heads referencing the story of David and Goliath. In Turcsány’s sculpture, the details of the face emerge from the surface of the stone-like, oval shape in much the same way as anthropomorphous traits frequently appear in natural phenomena. The head is not a portrayal of a specific person, but the face is full of character nevertheless. In contrast with this, the death mask, made by the sculptor Alajos Stróbl, is a faithful reflection of the features of the deceased, like a relic immortalising all his wrinkles, scars, and hairs.

The fragile plaster mask, recording an ethereal moment, acts here as a counterpoint to Turcsány’s solid and ponderous block of concrete. Despite taking different approaches to the subject, both works convey a sense of the natural, “palpable” presence of death. The slightly parted lips create a fundamental bond between the mask and Villő Turcsány’s blue sculpted head. The mouth is the gateway to the soul, so the fragments of time that float between existences are embodied in both artworks. They are monuments to permanence and timelessness, yet at the same time they hold up a mirror to our human mortality.

The 9th two sculptures are exhibited until 18 November in the Hungarian National Gallery. The next and last exhibition will open on Thursday 22 November.
